The South Waikato Super Sports event is held annually in Tokoroa on the last full weekend in February to raise funds for South Waikato sports people representing New Zealand in international events. The event is a multi-sport 3-day affair where teams of 2 compete to earn the title of South Waikato Super Sports champions in Male, Mixed, Female and Veteran categories. Sporting disciplines include 200m sprint relay, skating, a duathlon, clay bird shooting, indoor rowing, outdoor bowls, sawing, archery and target golf.
This year, Blue Pacific Minerals (represented by StockRock) sponsored the Claybird Shooting event. From 12pm until 2pm on Saturday, athletes were directed to 2 traps under the guidance of the clay bird shooting club members where they each attempt to hit 10 clay birds as the bright orange 'birds' emerge from the trap - one at a time on the shooter's call. Highest team score = 17 out of a possible 20. Lowest team score = 4. Two individuals shot the perfect round of 10. Note: the farmers shoot more accurately than the townies :)
The South Waikato Super Sports Trust has been raising funds and granting money to local sports people competing on the international stage for nearly 30 years. Now Blue Pacific Minerals and StockRock are part of this high profile community event, providing financial support to South Waikato athletes who have been invited to represent NZ internationally.
